  • Wenzhou Medical University (or informally WMU) received its academic credential to enroll foreign students in 1996, and founded School of International Studies in April of 2006 with its primary education and academic degrees taught in English. In 2007, WMU was approved by the Ministry of Education of China to be one of the very first schools of higher education to receive academic credential for English based bachelor’s programs in clinical medicine sciences. On the provincial level, WMU won the “Zhejiang Provincial School of Higher Education for Foreign Students Excellence Award” in the year 2008 and 2013. On the national level, WMU received the title “Foreign Students Education Spearhead Award” in the year 2009 and 2014. WMU also received its academic credential to enroll Chinese National Scholarship for Foreign Students recipients in 2011. In 2015, School of International Studies of WMU won the Prize for Excellence in the Competition of Website Designing for Admission of International Students in Zhejiang Province.

    Wenzhou Medical University is one of the largest and most robust schools for clinical medicine sciences in Zhejiang Province, and its foreign student’s program accreditations include Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Bachelor in Pharmacy which taught in English medium, Medical Imaging (Bachelor's Degree),  Nursing (Bachelor's Degree) in Chinese medium. With academic admission from around the globe, WMU boasts 755 full-time foreign students from 56 countries expanded across continent of Asia, Africa, Europe, Americas, and Australia, as well as more than 100 short-term foreign exchange students from various countries in the world. It started to enroll fulltime overseas students into Pharmacy Program in Oct. 2015 (co-management with School of Pharmaceutical Sciences). The joint establishment of Huatuo Program with the Medical University of Lublin in Poland was approved in Feb. 2016 and enrolled overseas students in WMU-MUL Dual MBBS Program (1+3+2) in Oct. 2016. Its graduate programs for foreign students, which commenced in September of 2013, also house 32 master’s candidates, 7 doctoral candidates, and 15 candidates for master’s-doctoral combined fast-track program. Aside from programs in clinical medicine sciences, Wenzhou Medical University also offers Chinese Language and Culture Studies for Confucius Institute Scholarship recipients. Wenzhou Medical University values international academic cooperation and cultural exchange, amongst its various exchange programs WMU co-founded several Confucius Institutes internationally including in Thailand with Burapha University, and in USA with State University of New York the College of Optometry.
