2025 Admission Guide for Postgraduate Students
Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) is a provincially administered university in Zhejiang Province. In 2015, it was jointly established by the Zhejiang Provincial Government, the National Health Commission, and the Ministry of Education. By 2017, it was recognized as a Priority Development University in Zhejiang Province, and in 2023, it was designated as a High-Level University for construction in Zhejiang Province.
WMU is ranked 72nd in the ESI Chinese University ranking, with 14 disciplines achieving a position within the top 1% globally. Among these, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology, and Toxicology are distinguished by their placement within the top 0.1% worldwide. WMU maintains a prominent standing in both domestic and international academic realms, as evidenced by various accolades. These recognitions include a fifth-place ranking among independent medical colleges and universities in the 2024 WUSHULIAN Ranking, as well as a placement in the 501-600 range in the 2024 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), and a ranking of 801-1000 in the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE).
1.Admission Requirements
To be eligible, an applicant must:
(1) be a citizen of a country other than the PRC and in good health both mentally and physically.
(2) Age Limit and Education Background Requirements:
① be an academically excellent holder of a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent under the age of 35 when applying for a Master’s program.
② be an academically excellent holder of a Master’s degree or its equivalent under the age of 40 when applying for a doctoral program.
(3) Language Proficiency Requirements:
English Medium Program:
① Applicants from non-English-speaking countries must have a score above 70 in TOEFL (15 or above for each band) or 6.0 in IELTS(5.0 or above for each band); or provide other comparable certificates proving English proficiency(Duolingo no less than 105).
② Applicants from English-speaking countries or receiving the last degree with the instruction in English are exempt from submitting the English proficiency certificates, but the certificate of English medium issued by the school graduated from shall be provided.
v Applicants for clinical Master's Degree are required to provide a certificate of 180 points or above in HSK Level 4 (inclusive) or equivalent Chinese language proficiency when applying.
2. Application Materials
Applicants are required to submit the following materials online:
(1) Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form
(2) Passport *
(3) Diploma and Certificate of the Highest Education *
(Notarized photocopy; current university students must submit a certificate of expected graduation or student status) *
(4) Academic Transcripts *
(Documents that are not originally in Chinese or English must be accompanied by translations in either language)
(5) Language Proficiency Certificate *
(6) Study/Research Plan in Chinese or English * (Attachment 1 for reference)
(7) Two Recommendation Letters from professors or associate professors, signed or stamped with the official seal *
(8) A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form *. (The original document, printed by Chinese quarantine authorities, shall be filled in in English and kept by the applicant). The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of an attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are invalid. Medical examination results are valid for only six months. (Attachment 2)
(9) Non-criminal record report *. A valid certificate issued within six months before the application submission date must be provided.

3. Scholarship
Chinese Government Scholarship
1. University Program (Type B)
Including the High-level Graduate program, the Silk Road program, etc.
Full scholarship cover:
1) Tuition fees;
2) University dormitory or accommodation subsidy;
3) Stipend:
Master’s Degree: CNY3,000/month
PhD Degree: CNY3,500 /month
4) Comprehensive medical insurance: CNY800/person/year

②After passing the preliminary examination on the International Student Service Platform of WMU, CSC applicants must log in to the system of China Scholarship Council (https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/) to submit application information online.

2. Bilateral Program (Type A)
The program is in accordance with the cooperation and exchange agreements or understandings established between the Chinese government and the governments and institutions of other nations. Applicants are required to submit an application to the relevant dispatching department of their respective home countries.
Wenzhou Medical University Scholarship
1. Master’s Degree
· Tuition fee waiver
· All other expenses, including the accommodation and insurance, are borne by the students themselves.
· Monthly stipend and other subsidies are not provided
2. PhD Degree
· Tuition fee waiver
· A standard monthly allowance of CNY3,000 during the study period
· All other expenses, including the accommodation and insurance, are borne by the students themselves.
3. MD-Ph.D. Degree
· Tuition fee waiver
· A standard monthly allowance (CNY2,500/month for the first two years and
RMB 3,000/month for the remaining 3 years)
· All other expenses, including the accommodation and insurance, are borne by the students themselves.

4. Fees
1) Tuition fees: Master’s students: CNY42,000/year;
PhD students: CNY50,000/year
2) Insurance: CNY800/year
3) Accommodation: CNY4,400/year (Shared Double Room)
4) Application fee: CNY400 (Waived for CSC applicants)
5. Application period
First batch:December 15th, 2024 - February 10th, 2025 (Chinese Government Scholarship, High-level Graduate program)
Second batch:March 14th, 2025 - April 30th, 2025 (Wenzhou Medical University Scholarship)
The third batch: Date to be determined
6. Enrollment Majors and Duration
Admissions Majors: 2025 Wenzhou Medical University Supervisor list (Attachment 3), refer to the provided link for detailed supervisor information (https://sis.wmu.edu.cn/En24/Admission/Supervisor_Profile.htm).
Duration of study: The length of schooling is three years for the Master’s and PhD programs and five years for the MD-PhD programs.
7. Admission and notification
1) The school admissions department will conduct a preliminary review of the application materials.
2) Each professional college will organize re-examinations (comprehensive interview, Chinese proficiency test)
3) After the School of International Studies of Wenzhou Medical University reviews and announces the re-examination results, the school notifies the admitted candidates and issues relevant admission materials such as the "Admission Notice" and "Visa Application Form for Foreign Students Studying in China" (JW202 Form).
