The 1stEast Thailand University Students’ Chinese Speech Contest was held successfully at Confucius Institute at Burapha University on December 18. 12 contestants from eastern and northern Thailand were selected out for the finals among nearly 100 participants.
"What I know about China" as topic, each contestant addressed a Chinese speech, answered questions about China and showed Chinese arts. Their standard accent, correct use of Chinese idioms and knowledge about Chinese history and cultures impressed the judges and more than 60 audiences greatly. What was more, wonderful Chinese art shows such as Chinese traditional dance, song, calligraphy, painting, paper-cutting and Chinese knot performed by the 12 contestants in the contest amazed all the audience with continuous applause.
Finally, Duan Caiyun from Chiang Mai Rajabhat University won the 1st prize, and other 5 contestants won second and third prizes respectively.
In recent years, Thais are more and more interested in learning the Chinese language and Chinese cultures. As one of the bases in East Thailand offering Chinese language teaching and introducing Chinese cultures, the Confucius Institute at burapha University will continue to organize more activities and contests like this, expecting to provide a platform for Chinese learners to learn and communicate with each other, inspect the fruit of Chinese teaching, and enhance students’ interest in learning Chinese language and Chinese cultures.
